Washington, DC News Anchor Anita Brikman to be Master of Ceremonies for USBF Gala
WASHINGTON, DC – Anita Brikman, co-anchor of the WUSA’s 9NEWS NOW, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the gala dinner honoring Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius at the 2010 U.S.-Baltic Gala. The gala dinner and silent auction will be held on Saturday, May 8 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. Ms. Brikman has served as the co-anchor of the 5 & 11 pm newscasts at 9 NEWS NOW since January 2008. Having previously served as a featured medical reporter at WPVI-TV/6ABC in Philadelphia, Ms. Brikman also spearheads the Health Unit for 9 NEWS NOW. Ms. Brikman joined WPVI-TV/6ABC in 1994. In her fourteen years at the station, Ms. Brikman covered a wide array of health-related topics including avian flu, prescription drug recalls, mercury contamination in fish, and coping with aggressive behavior in schools. In 2005, she also traveled to Indonesia following the tsunami to chronicle a medical relief mission undertaken by local physicians. Before WPVI, Ms. Brikman worked at WKEF-TV in Dayton, Ohio where she was the 6 & 11pm anchor.
A graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Ms. Brikman is a member of Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. Ms. Brikman is of Latvian heritage.
On Friday there will be a VIP reception at the Embassy of Denmark from 6:00- 8:00pm. The gala dinner begins at 6:30pm with a reception and silent auction at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.
