H.E. Andrius Kubilius,
Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania

Born on December 8, 1956, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius graduated from Vilnius State University, Faculty of Physics in 1979. He continued his studies of physics until 1984, after spending six years as a fellow at Vilnius State University, Faculty of Physics and three years completing his PhD. In 1988, Kubilius became a member of Sajudis, the Reform Movement of Lithuania, and in 1990 he served for two years as the Executive Secretary of Sajudis. Kubilius joined the Seimas [Parliament of Lithuania] in 1992 and became its First Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs in 1996. In 1999, Kubilius became the Prime Minister of the 10th Government of Lithuania. He has since served in many positions in the Seimas, before once again returning to the post of Prime Minister on November 28, 2008.
Andrius Kubilius pursues wide-ranging interests: he is interested in the political science, history, and knowledge economy; he is a Chairman of the Policy Committee of the Knowledge Economy Forum. He was a Chairman of the Knowledge Society Council under the President of the Republic of Lithuania in 2001-2003. Kubilius has been Member of the international Advisory Board of the Baltic Development Forum since 2001. He was President of the Lithuanian Shooting Sport Union until November 2008.
Kubilius is a well-educated person, he is fluent in English and Russian, and is a classical music fan. He is a great advocate of ecological transport: he is a pioneer and participant of the annual summer bicycle tours across Lithuania Suk ? dešin? [Turn Right] as well as an enthusiast of canoeing along the rivers of Lithuania.Kubilius is a good husband and father: his wife Rasa is a violinist of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, son Andrius is Project Manager of UAB “Exto Marketing”, and son Vytautas is Director of UAB “Media contacts”.
Andrius Kubilius has written books “Kod?l krepšinis Lietuvoje gražesnis už politik?” [“Why Basketball is More Fascinating than Politics in Lithuania”] (2004) and „Konservatyvioji bendruomen?”[“The Conservative Community”] (2006).
Kubilius has been awarded for his merits for the State of Lithuania: the Independence Medal of Lithuania (1 July 2000), Commander’s Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas (21 April 2004); President of Estonia awarded Andrius Kubilius for his merits for Estonia 3rd Class Order of the Cross of St. Mary’s Land (23 February 2007). Kubilius has been Member of the Homeland Union since the foundation of the party in 1993. He was First Deputy Chairman of the Union in 2000-2003. Kubilius has been Chairman of the Union since 24 May 2003.
